Who and where are we?
Founded in 1997, the Society focuses on family history research. We have a local core and a greater number of remote members, all with links to Ayrshire. We are based in Alloway, the birthplace of Robert Burns, 2 miles south of Ayr. The Society is registered as a charity. (Charity number: SC029380)
Our members have interests covering the whole of Scotland, with inevitable migrations into other parts of the British Isles and the rest of the World. From our location in Alloway, we focus on the Southern part of Ayrshire, roughly that part South of the River Ayr.
We normally meet in the Alloway Parish Church Halls, Auld Nick's View, Alloway, KA7 4RT (Map), on the third Tuesday of each month from September to May, at 19:30 for 19:45. At these meetings we usually have a speaker, followed by a break for refreshment and then the Society's research facilities are available for use by members until 22:00.
In addition, we organise visits to places of interest to family historians, such as museums, libraries and other places housing historical documentation and artefacts.
If you are unable to attend one of our meetings, please introduce yourself and ask a question in our guest book or browse our list of members' surname interests to see if one of our members shares a family name interest and you would like to introduce yourself to them.
