DNA and Genealogy - Tuesday 21st September 2010

Speaker: Mr Chris Paton
Chris Paton holds a Post Graduate diploma in Genealogical studies. He also writes monthly articles and columns for several genealogy magazines such as “Your family Trees” and “Practical family History”. He will be discussing new resources such as DNA profiling etc. This meeting will be held in the Large Hall and start at 19:45 for 20:00.

Poor Laws from 1845 - Tuesday 19th October 2010

Speaker: Dr Irene O’Brien
Dr O’Brien is the Senior Archivist at The Mitchell Library. She will be speaking about how valuable the resource archives are which are available at The Mitchell Library regarding the Poor Laws from 1845.

David Webster is internationally recognised as a Scottish Genealogical researcher, author and speaker. He has almost 20 years of research in a wide range of Scottish records.

Speaker: Mr. Dougal McIntyre
Dougal is the son of David Fowler McIntyre and will be recounting his life as one of Scotland’s aviation pioneers, including his flight over Everest and the birth of Scottish Aviation

Mrs Kidd is the Commandant of Ayr and Troon branches of the above Association. She is also a qualified trainer and assessor.

Speaker: Mrs Sheena Andrew
Sheena Andrew is a retired reference librarian of Carnegie Library. She is a member of Kyle and Carrick Civic Society and also a member of Ayrshire Archaeological and Natural History Society. This meeting will be in the Large hall and start at 19:45 for 20:00.

Joint meeting - Researching Your Irish Ancestry - Wednesday 23rd March 2011

Speaker: Mr Chris Paton
Chris, who is a Largs FHS member, is a professional genealogist, author and researcher and has first-hand experience of this type of research. This is the annual Joint meeting to be hosted by Largs FHS and is to be held in the Session House of St. Columba's Church, Largs. St. Columba's is situated at the foot of Nelson Street (opposite Nardini's)

Victorian Churches in Ayrshire - Tuesday 26th April 2011

Speaker: Professor John Hume
This meeting will start with the Society AGM and will be followed by Professor Hume who is a retired Chief Inspector of Historic Buildings with Historic Scotland. He has published a wide range of books and articles on the industrial archaeological and historic buildings of Scotland.
